Spider Veins

What Are Spider Veins?

Telangiectasia (spider veins) are the visible signs of an underlying venous insufficiency problem, where venous blood escapes from the normal flow of blood into an already congested leg.

Spider Veins are a mild form of venous insufficiency, which are cosmetically unappealing, but generally not dangerous or health threatening.

Spider veins are a very small thread like veins. They are generally blue or red in color. These veins are found more on legs and face. These veins are a big cosmetic problem as they disfigure the look of the skin. Let us find out how they form and how to get rid of them.

How do they form?

Venous insufficiency is caused by valves in the veins that have broken down. These valves prevent blood flow back to the arteries. If their integrity is compromiseD, blood can accumulate and collect. This condition in aggravated in people who are sedentary or obese and likewise aggravated by hormonal imbalances found in pregnancy or with the use of HRT and chemical birth control.

Spider veins are thought to form due to genetic reasons. Women get them more than men and they develop after an age. Young people don’t suffer from this problem much. They form a web like bundle that spreads from a center and that is why it is called spider veins.

Spider Veins are different than varicose veins. In varicose veins, the veins get pressurized by blood and protrude from the skin surface. Ulceration of varicose veins causes a medical problem.

Spider veins are often associated with the use of HRT and birth control pills. High levels of estrogen from these medications seem to aggravate venous insufficiency. If you are using birth control pills for contraception, you may want to ask your doctor for a lower-estrogen dose formula. If you are on HRT, you may want to consider switching to a lower dose, adding progesterone, or using a weaker formula, such as an estrone cream.

Treatment for Spider Veins

The only method of treatment of spider veins is destruction. They can be destroyed in many ways. Your doctor may use a fine needle and cut through the veins with electricity. The veins get destroyed as they are burnt. Lasers are now frequently used to remove spider veins. Your doctor will tell about the method that is suitable for you.

However changes in diet can help with the appearance of spider and varicose veins. There are several herbs that will keep blood thin and flowing smoothly. Also consider the nutrients required to keep veins and capillaries strong. Increasing your intake of monounsaturated and saturated fats can help. All cells replace themselves on a regular basis, including the cells in your circulatory system.

A diet heavy in polyunsaturated fats is inadequate for tissue repair and can often excerbate the problem with an increase of free radicals. Your body requires cholesterol and saturated fats for the building of strong cell walls. If you have been eating mostly seed oils, your body is not getting the right kind of fats. Consider switching to olive oil for salad dressings and coconut oil and butter for cooking. Also, the dietary enzyme bromelain can improve overall circulation by reducing the build up of fibrin along the walls of the blood vessels. It is very inexpensive, and good for circulation disorders of all kinds.

When cleaning your skin, use your wash cloth or loufah to massage the area around the broken veins first in a circular motion and then in a brushing motion upwards towards the bowels. This will improve circulation.

There are now many new commercial cosmetic procedures are available for the reduction of spider veins and varicose veins, however many of them are simply not justifiably affordable for the average person. Even if such procedures are used, natural, inexpensive at-home treatments can increase the success of expensive procedures and prevent a future repeat of symptoms.

Varicose Veins

What Are Varicose Veins?

We will cover something here that women (and men) don’t just sit around and openly talk about. It is something that is kept covered up. Not with lies, but with pants. We will be addressing the topic of varicose veins.

When veins in the human body become enlarged, they are know as varicose veins. The color of these veins can vary. They can be a dark blue, blue, purple, or even a flesh like color.

These veins look like they are wrapped and enveloped into each other. They are at their worst when they actual enlarge past the skin and protrude. These veins do not make wearing shorts fun and they develop mostly on a persons legs.

Varicose veins are the visible signs of an underlying venous insufficiency problem, where venous blood escapes from the normal flow of blood into an already congested leg

If you suffer from the problem of varicose veins, don’t worry; you are by no means alone. Over half the women in the Unites States on America suffer from this problem. I always thought it was just something that happened to woman, as they get older.

I then found out that there are many factors that could cause a woman to get varicose veins. I remember when my wife first started getting them. She was the ripe old age of 28. Were expecting our third child. That’s when I found out that one of the causes is an increase of the flow of blood in the body. Because she was pregnant there was more blood flowing through her veins.

The problem of varicose veins can escalate into something much more serious than just bad appearances.  Varicose Veins are a more serious form of venous insufficiency that can accompany other symptoms, including pain, soreness, burning, aching, throbbing, cramping, muscle fatigue, and restless legs. Over time, chronic venous insufficiency can lead to skin and soft tissue breakdown.

Because the legs are so far below the heart the veins located there have the hardest time pumping the blood back up. As more and more pressure is put on the legs (through pregnancy, weight gain, etc) the blood collects there. It is pumped through at a much slower rate than the rest of the body. The collection of blood could very easily lead to blood clots. This is a very dangerous situation as blood clots passed to the heart and brain cause strokes and possibly death.

How can you avoid the problem of varicose veins?

There are several extra steps you can take for the treatment of varicose veins.

Changes in diet can help with the appearance of spider and varicose veins. There are several herbs that will keep blood thin and flowing smoothly. Also consider the nutrients required to keep veins and capillaries strong. Increasing your intake of monounsaturated and saturated fats can help. Painful varicose veins should always be evaluated by your physician as they may require surgery. If you have asymptomatic varicose veins, it may be a good idea to tell your doctor during your regularly scheduled check up so she can be aware of any possible vascular disease or disorder.

There are new commercial cosmetic procedures available for the reduction of varicose veins, however many of them are simply not justifiably affordable for the average person. Hair Loss

Three Factors That Cause Hair Loss

Most of us have heard that too much hat-wearing or poor circulation to the scalp can cause hair loss. Theses causes all have been proven to be myths, and the real causes of hair loss are stress, health, and hormones.

Stress can cause your hair to literally fall out. Usually the hair loss occurs 3 months after you`ve gone through the stressful period. Then you will need another 3 months after you begin losing hair for your hair growth to begin again ( if the stress has been diffused ).

Your bodies built in healing process considers your emotional problem so important, that it ignores your hair putting it into a resting phase. This resting phase is known as Telogen Effluvium. Stress can also trigger genetic hair loss. If your already losing hair stress will cause you to lose hair even faster. So stress plays a big role in hair loss, keep your blood pressure down!

Health is also a factor in hair loss. Damaged blood vessel linings can inhibit your hair growth. This is because these blood vessel linings normaly produce endothelium-derived relaxing factor (E.D.R.F.) or nitric oxide (N.O.). Studies also show that there is a strong relationship between people with heart disease experienceing hair loss. Also, diabetics have a higher risk of experiencing hair loss.

Lastly, male hormones called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is known to be the most common reason for male pattern hair loss. DHT is produced from testosterone which is produced by the enzyme 5-apha reductase. DHT has a very high affinity being up to ten times more potent than testosterone. Your DHT hormones can be balanced which medication, these medications will resurrect your hair follicles bringing them out of their resting phase and your hair will begin to grow again.

An inbalance of DHT triggers and autoimmune response in pattern loss, which initiates an attack on your hair follices. Gradually your hair follices will become inflammed putting your hair in a resting phase which causes hair to only fall out not grow.

Half of the men and women in just the U.S. suffer from hair loss. The good news is hair loss is no longer something you have to live with. There are many treatments out there, some will correct the inbalance of DHT in your body to allow you to grow your own hair again, some simply need patience or counseling, and of course you can turn to expensive hair transplant surgery. But why get to this point, just know the three factors that cause hair loss and your chances of having a full head of hair, go way up!

Overcompensating For Hair Loss is Increasing Hair Loss

Many hair loss sufferers are more concerned with how the problem affects their existence than why the problem occurred. It is very understandable. After all, yourself image impacts most aspects of your life socially and professionally and we live in an image-driven culture.

We have a natural tendency to become defensive and overreact to anything which threatens our appearance. Hair loss is an obvious and severe threat to how we perceive ourselves. It causes such insecurity some people may feel they have no choice but to overcompensate for the problem. Unfortunately, they are falling into a trap and making the problem worse.

In 1997, a scientist followed the lives of over 4300 male hair loss sufferers. The purpose of the study was to examine aspects of their lifestyle which may be causing or accelerating the hair loss. The results were very interesting.

Compared to men with a full head of hair, these men were 32% more likely to drink over 5 alcoholic drinks each day. They were 151% more likely to smoke cigarettes than men with healthy hair. In general, these men were 72% more likely to indulge in dangerous habits like driving aggressively and taking physical risks.

Even more interesting were the indicators of health in these men. They were 25% more likely to suffer a major injury. Even worse, they were 76% more likely to have a heart attack.

Consider for a moment the factors which cause hair loss. Hair loss is a direct result of a hormone imbalance creating too much testosterone and too much of the testosterone derivative, DHT. Anything which increases testosterone will increase hair loss.

Hormone imbalances occur naturally, but how we care for our body can turn a minor imbalance into a major problem. Smoking and drinking prevents the natural production of enzymes which balance and counteract testosterone.  Even worse, risky and aggressive behavior forces the brain to signal the creation of more testosterone.

These men were suffering from too much testosterone, yet lived lifestyles which promoted more testosterone. Some men admitted they used aggressive behavior to feel more masculine and attractive. Other men acknowledged it as a self-punishment because of their disappointing looks. In every case, a man’s overcompensation for hair loss created an environment for greater hair loss.

Instead of overcompensating for your problem, why not try to solve it? Why not find a way to reduce testosterone and create a hormonal balance within your body? If that sounds like a better solution than trying to make you feel better mentally, it is time to pick up a copy of The Hair Loss Black Book.

The Hair Loss Black Book is a detailed program that shows you how to prevent hair loss by blocking the source of the problem, DHT. It teaches you a health and fitness program tailored to your body. You will learn how to achieve your ideal body form, becoming a picture of health that is DHT free. At the end of the program, you will have learned how to stop hair loss and re-grow hair. More importantly, once you achieve your ideal form and have a thick head of hair, your self image will never be a problem again.

Dry Itchy Scalp And Dandruff

Your Dandruff May Be A Bummer, But It Is Harmless To Your Health

Dandruff is a “cosmetic” problem, says New York dermatologist Michele Green, MD. “It will not cause anything bad.” No one knows precisely what causes dandruff, though a fungus called malassezia may play a role. It’s normal to have malassezia on your skin. Too much of it, though, is linked to dandruff.

These are some of the common reasons your scalp can get dry and itchy: Seborrheic dermatitis (or seborrhea): This common skin condition causes redness, itching, and flaking. It can occur on many parts of the body. When it affects the scalp, it’s called dandruff. It’s treatable.

Most often, over-the-counter medicated shampoos will stop the flakes from falling. More stubborn cases will likely benefit from prescription-strength shampoos and steroid creams.

Scalp psoriasis can cause dandruff-like itching and flaking. Psoriasis happens when the immune system triggers too many skin cells to grow on various parts of the body. That can include your scalp.

People with psoriasis may be more likely to get dandruff, but psoriasis is not dandruff. Eczema. This skin condition can make your scalp itchy and flaky. It’s most common in babies and children, but anyone can get it. The cause is unknown. Moisturizers and prescription steroid creams can help relieve the symptoms, as can avoiding harsh soaps and scratching.

It also helps to avoid stress whenever possible. Certain diseases, such as Parkinson’s and HIV, have also been linked to dandruff. People with these diseases have higher rates of dandruff, says Heather Onoday, RN. She’s a nurse practitioner who specializes in dermatology at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Ore.

Having dandruff doesn’t make either of those diseases more likely, though. A poor diet also has been suggested as a culprit, although Green says there’s no proven link. Jeffrey Benabio, MD, agrees. “We may see associations but we can’t say that, for example, vitamin D deficiency from lack of sunlight in winter causes dandruff,” says Benabio, a dermatologist with Kaiser Permanente in San Diego. Eat a well-rounded diet for your overall health. A dry scalp doesn’t mean you’re lacking any particular nutrient, though.

3 Things That Can Make Dandruff Worse

These things don’t cause dandruff, but they worsen it if you already have it:

  1. Not washing your hair often enough. “That’s the simplest reason,” Green says. “It should be washed every day or every other day.”
  2. Stress. “Stress makes everything worse,” Green says. Stress happens, so what really matters is how you respond to it.
  3. The season. “It’s always worse during the winter, when it’s really cold out and overheated indoors,” Green says.

Tips

  • Make sure to wash the oil out of your hair thoroughly. Leaving it in can cause it to smell. Plus, it makes your hair look greasy
  • Baking soda is also great for treating a dry scalp, dandruff, fungus on the scalp and makes a great clarifying shampoo. Just mix 1 tablespoon with enough water to make a paste and then use for your normal shampoo.
  • Always visit a dermatologist or your doctor if you are experiencing scalp problems.

Edit Warnings

  • If the white specks in your hair don’t go away, it may be a sign of lice. You should seek more advanced treatment in this case.
